Constructional Approach to Animal Welfare and Training (CAAWT) has partnered with WAYS to offer Compassionate Learning Among Wildlife and Shelter Animals (CLAWS), a class for WAYS members interested in living with or potentially having a career working with animals.
September 1st, we will jump-start this exotic experience by going to the Brevard Zoo, where members will get to meet a variety of professionals working at Brevard Zoo, learn the variety of possible career opportunities, and some of the training techniques used at the zoo.
Also, following this zoo visit, we will launch an 8-week course. We have three onsite training classes for WAYS members to experience career workshops, professional skills training, and animal training sessions. Members will learn a wide variety of careers working with animals, how to care for animals we live with, communication and interpersonal skills, time management and organization, problem-solving and critical thinking, a basic understanding of animal behavior and learning, and positive reinforcement techniques. The last five sessions will be spent designing and implementing training programs with direct supervision at a local animal shelter to help shelter dogs get adopted and stay adopted!
CAAWT will be sponsoring the cost for WAYS members, so we are calling to action for donors to support this activity! To make this class a reality, we're seeking support from generous individuals like you. Your donation will directly contribute to covering the costs of the zoo trip and the overall class expenses. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant difference in our ability to provide these opportunities to our members.
