In August of 2023, GS officially received her Foster Youth to Independence Housing Choice Voucher (FYI) and is preparing to move into her very first apartment, thanks to the Housing Authority of Brevard County. WAYS for Life and HABC assisted GS with obtaining an FYI voucher, which assists former foster youth with rent payments and supports them as they transition to housing independence. GS then applied for and was accepted to one of HABC’s beautiful affordable housing developments.
GS aged out of foster care in 2019 and became a member of WAYS for Life in 2022. In the fall of 2022, she went on to further her education at Eastern Florida State College. She made the honor roll at Eastern Florida in her first semester, will graduate with her AA degree in the summer of 2024, and hopes to transfer to Florida State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree. She participates in the Postsecondary Education Services and Support state program, which supports foster youth attending Florida Bright Futures eligible schools, while also working part time. Her FYI voucher will help her save money for her future while she continues to pursue her educational goals. She is a rising star at WAYS for Life!
