Program Details
First Semester - 15 weeks
Students earn a laptop computer upon completion.
Second Semester - 15 weeks
Students earn a dollar match up to $3000 to be used towards housing, education and / or another goal to assist them with independent living.
The WAYS for Life Lift Up Life Skills is a two-semester program for a total of 30 weeks. Teachers and mentors provide an educational experience to empower teens and young adults aging out of foster care, experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness.
The program is focused on 4 Pillars of Success.
Applicants must be WAYS for Life current members.
LiftUp Life Skills empowers young individuals to unlock their full potential and equips them with essential tools for success in various aspects of life. It's essential to attend all 30 weeks of the program, with the allowance for two approved absences per semester. The program requires independent study and homework outside of the weekly class schedule.
Upon completing the initial 15 weeks, participants receive a laptop as recognition for achieving level 1 life skills. Completing the subsequent 15 weeks comes with another benefit: a matching fund initiative. For every dollar saved by the member, up to $3000, LiftUp Life Skills will match it. These funds can then be used to support crucial goals for independent living, such as securing housing, transportation, and education.

CORE VALUES
HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
Building strong, healthy relationships is essential for personal growth and success in life. In LiftUp's Semester 1, we focus on nurturing these relationships using the insights from "Success for Teens: Real Teens Talk About Using The Slight Edge." This resource empowers young individuals with social skills that foster growth, self-evaluation, reflection, and continuous self-improvement in their daily interactions.
LEADERSHIP & PROFESSIONALISM
Our aim is to mold young adults into competent professionals and leaders of tomorrow. Throughout two semesters of LiftUp, participants engage with mentors and comprehensive modules that teach them the art of professional presentation, effective communication, and cultivating leadership qualities. From making impactful first impressions to crafting impressive resumes, our program instills vital skills necessary for thriving in today's competitive job market.
LIFE SKILLS
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, mastering essential life skills is paramount. LiftUp's curriculum delves into practical topics like "Attitude is Everything," "Harnessing the Power of Habits," and "Living Healthy and Well." These sessions offer invaluable insights not typically covered in traditional education settings, equipping students with the tools and knowledge to navigate life's complexities with confidence and resilience.
FINANCIAL WELLNESS
In an age where financial literacy is indispensable, LiftUp empowers students to become adept stewards of their finances. Beyond merely earning money, our program emphasizes the importance of responsible financial management through the principles of "spend, save, and share." Participants learn essential skills such as budgeting, debt management, credit building, and investment strategies, ensuring they not only survive but thrive in the dynamic financial landscape.
